Hi There,
Sorry to interfere with your board, but I'm trying to organise friendly matches for Harvel CCs Sunday 1st XI team.
I've emailed info@plaxtolcc.co.uk a few times without any success.
I've been asked by our committee to contact more 'local' teams to try to arrange fixtures.
If your fixture secretary could check the above email address or alturnatively email me on dickymac@yahoo.com (appologies for address!) i'd be most grateful.
All the best for next season.

Dear All,
At the recent committee meeting, we discussed the possibility of the club entering the National Village Cup competition.
It takes place on sundays through the season, working up through county and regional to national fixtures, with the final held at Lord's.
My understanding is that Bidborough enter, and usually make it a way into the regionals. I see no reason why a strong Plaxtol XI couldn't go a long way, providing some really interesting and tough fixtures, and potentially great kudos and publicity for the club.
The issues are of course that you only know your next fixture when you win the latest one, and if you go a fair way, there may be some travel involved!
It also requires some prior commitment to 2 games of a weekend. Some re-jigging of sunday games may thus be needed to accommodate, but I'd like to canvass opinion from all, and especially 1st and 2nd XI regulars, as to their interest levels, prior to our applying for entry.
Please let me know your thoughts,
Kind regards,
Tillo
Will ritchie:
Sounds like a brilliant idea Tillo, everything I've heard/read about this competition is always positive and it looks like a good laugh combined with some good quality cricket. Is the idea to run these games alongside the regular Supers fixtures? If so the supers already struggle for availability most weeks - we may suffer in the cup if there are clashes.
Overall though I personally would be well up for it.
|
TC:
I may be completely wrong about this but my former flatmate's boyfriend plays for Bidborough first XI and played in last year's competition. The gist of what he said to me is that you need to have your best XI out each time to stand a chance of competing. The level isn't necessarily as high as you'd think (not until the latter stages at least) but most clubs have one or two very handy players who'd be a notch above our league.
That leaves you in a tough situation of course as you don't know when the games are and therefore you can't plan any availability in advance.
If a full strength Bidborough can go well there's no reason a full strength Plaxtol can't. But that's a big if I guess.
Good luck.
TC

Plaxtol made a forgettable start to the Indoor league coming up 20 runs short against 5 man Vine. Bowling first, we got off to a swift start, Slates bowling their opener first ball. The first six overs went with 3 wickets falling at around 7 an over. Thereafter, we seemed to lose our way. Vine ended up 102 all out.
Platol lost BT in the first over and after some good impetus from Slater and Cox came an awful mix up with both at the non strikers end. That was the first of 4 run outs. A game that was very much there for the taking passed us by and so as my school report mentioned often, could do better !!

Hi all
A memorial rugby match is being held for former Plaxtol Super Sunday player John Vanns at Tonbridge School on 15 October (2.15 kick off). This promises to be a very special day with plenty of Larkins available, a crowd well in excess of 200 and hopefully a good game of rugby. PCC’s very own Mark Francis will be providing some ballast up front for the JV All Stars and we are in contract negotiations to sign James Munton.
Luke Sanders will also be supporting the team by ensuring all the players are well hydrated throughout the day.
Hope to see as big a PCC contingent as possible.
Tillo:
Any plaxtolians going? Don't have a direct link to the event in person, but keen to take Freddie to his first rugby match.

Huge thanks to Ray Grayland and the stalwarts who turned out this morning to help sort out the square for next year - Frankie, Bernie, Yogi, Mike and Lord Minto of Nizels. Job well done.
Also, far more importantly, massive congratulations to Tillo and Steph on the arrival of Frederick James early this Sunday morning weighing in at 8 - 11. Well done skip, and especially well done to Steph. Brilliant news. Skips excuse for not helping us with the scarifying is accepted!!! Frederick's PCC shirt is already on order!
Tillo (proud as punch):
Thank you BT for a lovely note, and to all for their kind messages through the day. Freddie and Steph have done really well today, and are now settling in at Pembury hospital tonight, but fingers crossed home tomorrow.
He's a big bugger all right, and no-one guessed quite how big on the club sweepstake that Steph ran end-of-season. Closest though was Jan Perry, with 8-10, so we'll get Jan her winnings as soon as able (promise not to spend them on baby-clothes!).

2nd XI v Sissinghurst
A 10 man Sissinghurst team arrived at a damp Plaxtol 10 points ahead of us. I won the toss and inserted the visitors. After the first 2 overs and 29 without loss I was beginning to have doubts! Their big hitting opener then holed out to a great running catch from Frankie and the slide began with Yogi(4-15) removing their middle order. Frankie(2-9) chipped in to remove the last 2 tailenders and Sissinghurst all out for 93.
After a great Frost tea fest Tom(34*) and Ben(53*)set about the Sissinghurst bowlers depositing them all around the ground. After just 13 overs Tom finished things with a maximum. Plaxtol 20 points and fifth in the table.
2nd XI v Sennocke
For the first time in 2 years Plaxtol played Sennocke on a sunny and dry day. As has been fairly constant this year I lost the toss and to my surprise we were inserted on waht looked a very dry wicket.
However Tom fell to the second ball of the game - not to an attacking shot! Ben chipped out in the second over and Yogi followed soon after to great 'straight' ball. Rob Slater(49) back in Plaxtol colours joined Boo Boo(74) and they steadied the ship. The partnership was broken when Rob was adjudged LBW and Boo Boo was caught in the deep shortly after. Plaxtol finishing on 194-6.
After a good tea it was Plaxtol's bowlers chance to take advantage of the pitch. I struck in the second over and then Frosty(4-15) ripped out the middle order. The Sennocke batsmen decided to bat out their remaining overs to finish on 123-7.
It was a fantastic way to finish the season not only beating Sennocke after 2 years of trying but also confirming our 5th position in the table.
A brilliant season where everyone involved has contributed and made the skippers job so much easier - thank you!
Craigy:
Great effort boys...and well done skip.

1st XI match report v Penshurst (home) – 3.9.11
Before we begin, I must thank one of our regular followers, a Mr R. Court, for his kind concerns as to whether this column was delayed owing to the arrival of Skip jr. That is not yet the case, dear reader, but be assured you will be updated as events unfold!
A final game against Penshurst provided at least an opportunity to beat everyone in the league this season. Skip, now in full flow with the coin, won an unheralded third toss in a row, though this was little comfort on a firm, but again green-coated Fairlawne. Batting was unlikely to be the straightforward event of 2010, but we’d have a go.
Sadly, another stuttering performance, rather typical of our season, would follow. Freddie (20) could feel aggrieved, most onlookers seeing a lot of bat on ball before any pad involved, nonetheless adjudged LBW. Thereafter, disciplined bowling and excellent fielding, combined with poor shot selection, did for much of our batting. BT at least offered a few classy strokes before holing out for 43, and Kass’ 22 the only other score above 20. Skip was bowled at ankle height by a ball pitching on the edge of the cut strip, (thus ending a miserable personal season with the willow) but there were few balls of real terror, just enough movement to make clean hitting uncomfortable. Or so we thought...
A not so grand 170 all out, when at least 200 might have been competitive, did not detract from the splendour of Duke’s tea; a superb range of sarnies, homemade brownie’s, and beautifully presented cupcakes, that Sanders hastily pointed out were not his own creation!
CP would take the new cherry, and was generally economical, with countless appeals rejected, until he had the first wicket, caught behind. The Penshurst batting was bolstered by a garrison of Old Tonbridgians, to rival our own line-up, and they were happy to swing freely with the bat, putting first Saker, and then Skip, to the sword. Pip found the top end to his liking easily enough, deserving more than 1 for 35, and Duke bought 2 more wickets, though at a price, but early hitting meant the middle order could cruise home with time to spare, discomfort against Phil no real problem as they nudged up and over our total.
A poor climax to the on-field season, then, and 4th place almost certainly an underachievement. This did not detract too greatly from a fine turnout at dinner and a good social occasion to announce one award early - our cricketer of the year – Rob Saker. Rob’s been a great performer on Saturdays and Sundays, with bat and ball; a sound tactician; great socialiser; respected opponent; and all round good egg. We wish him and Nicole a safe journey home, and would be honoured to see him back at Fairlawne in the future, career and other life events permitting!
Final sponsor’s note:
Thanks for a Rollicking Season!
Pip:
Just to reiterate Tillo's sentiment, thanks everyone for a great cricketing summer and already looking forward to next year when we smash Penshurst!
